Important:
Never point the aerial directly at the model. For physical reasons
the signal radiated from the aerial is at its weakest in an imagi-
nary line extending straight out from the aerial.
!
Note:
Always remove the 35, 40, … MHz transmitter aerial (telescopic
or short aerial) before operating the 2.4 GHz M-LINK system.

OPERATING MODE
(
NOT
PCM)
Whenever you wish to operate your Graupner mc-18, mc-20 or
mc-24 transmitter with the 2.4 GHz M-LINK system it is essential
to select the PPM operating mode (not PCM!).
This applies to binding mode (
Î
14.
) and range-check mode
(
Î
15.
) as well as for normal operations (
Î
16.
).

OPERATION AND

Z
When you wish to convert back from 2.4 GHz M-LINK operation
to 35, 40, … MHz mode, this is the procedure:
x
Switch the transmitter OFF, open the transmitter, and
disconnect the transmitter battery (
Î
2.
).
x
Undo the 2.4 GHz aerial adapter lead connection.
x
Disconnect and remove the
2.4 GHz HFMG1 M-LINK RF
module
.
x
Disconnect the LED button lead and the channel expansion
module lead (if present) from the 2.4 GHz RF module.
x
Push the silicone insulating sleeve over the aerial connector,
and stow the aerial adapter lead carefully inside the trans-
mitter case.
!
Caution: the disconnected leads must be deployed
neatly inside the transmitter! You may wish to use adhesive
tape, cable-ties or Velcro (hook-and-loop) tape for this. It is
absolutely essential that you eliminate potential short-
circuits, e.g. due to unsecured leads.
x
Install the 35, 40, … MHz RF module.
x
Connect the transmitter battery (
Î
2.
), close the transmitter.
x
Screw in the 35, 40, … MHz aerial.
Reverse the procedure to convert from 35, 40, … MHz back to
2.4 GHz M-LINK technology.
!
Note:
you must always remove the 35, 40, ... MHz trans-
mitter aerial (telescopic or short type) before operating the
2.4 GHz M-LINK system!
14. B
INDING PROCEDURE
The transmitter and receiver using 2.4 GHz M-LINK technology
must be “bound” to each other once before the system can be
used. This procedure is known as “binding”.
!
Note:
You will find general information on the subject of binding, and
on fault-finding and correction relating to the binding procedure,
in the operating instructions supplied with your MULTIPLEX
M-LINK receiver.
The binding procedure in detail:
1. Place the transmitter and receiver aerial(s) immediately
adjacent to each other.
2. Switch ON the Graupner mc-18, mc-20 or mc-24 transmitter
with 2.4 GHz M-LINK technology in Binding mode:
x
Hold the LED button on the transmitter pressed in.
x
Switch the transmitter ON.
x
Release the LED button as soon as the LED flashes at a
high rate.
3. Switch the M-LINK receiver ON in binding mode
(see the M-LINK receiver operating instructions):
=> The binding process is now in progress.
4. Once the transmitter and receiver have detected each other,
both units
automatically
switch over to regular transmit /
receive mode (Normal operations
Î
16.
):
=> The LED in the transmitter’s LED-button flashes
approximately every two seconds.
!
Note:
the binding process usually only takes a few seconds.
15. R
ANGE CHECKING
Regular range checks are very important - even when using a
2.4 GHz system - in order to ensure reliable operation of the
radio control system, and to give you a chance to detect sources
of interference in good time. This applies in particular:
x
Before the use of new or changed components, or existing
components in a new or modified arrangement.
x
Before re-using radio control system components which were
previously involved in a crash or a hard landing.
x
If you have encountered problems on a previous flight.
Important:
x
Always ask a second person to help you with your range
check, so that one of you can secure and observe the model.
x
The range check should only be carried out if there are no
other transmitters switched on at the same time.
Preparations, carrying out the range check:
1. Select “range check” mode on the Graupner mc-18, mc-20 or
mc-24 transmitter with 2.4 GHz M-LINK technology:
x
Switch the transmitter ON.
x
Within four seconds of switching the transmitter ON,
press and hold the LED push-button until the LED itself
glows continuously.
2. Switch the M-LINK receiver ON.
3. Carry out the range check as described in the operating
instructions supplied with your M-LINK receiver.
4.
When you have completed the range check, switch OFF
the Graupner mc-18, mc-20 or mc-24 transmitter with
M-LINK technology, and then ON again, in order to
switch back to normal transmit mode with full range!
