Emergency Channel

e m er g en cy assistan c e , use VHF Channel 16 to send a distress c a ll
to near by v esse l s and t h e United S tates Coast Guard . T rans m it t h e
f o ll o w in g in f or m ation , in t h is order :
1 “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY.”
2 “T H IS IS _____________________, C ALL SI G N __________.”
State the name of the vessel in distress 3 times , followed by the
call sign or other identification of the vessel, stated 3 times .
3 R e p eat “MAYDAY” and t h e na m e o f t h e v esse l.
4 “WE ARE LO C ATED AT _______________________.”
State the position of the vessel in distress, using any information
that will help responders to locate you, e.g.:
• latitude and longitude
• bearing (state whether you are using true or magnetic north)
• distance to a well-known landmark
• vessel course, speed or destination
