F-46 PREPARATION BEFORE STARTING MASS PRODUCTION
13
SYNCHRONOUS OPERATION (S TYPE)
When a workpiece is transferred from spindle 1 to spindle 2, headstock 2 might
interfere with the turret. Make sure that the following conditions are met before
carrying out workpiece transfer from spindle 1 to spindle 2.
1.
Move turret 1 to the position where tools in the turret will not interfere with the
chucks.
2.
Move turret 2 to the X-axis zero point.
3.
For turret 2, index the No.1 tool.
4.
When carrying out cut-off process, move the turret to the position where tools in
turret 1 will not interfere with the chucks after indexing the cut-off tool.
When a workpiece is transferred from spindle 1 to spindle 2, the following methods can be done.
1.
The workpiece is transferred while both spindles are stopped.
2.
The workpiece is transferred while both spindles are rotating.
When a workpiece is to be transferred while both spindles are rotating, the spindle speed of both
spindles must be synchronized.
If a workpiece is such as a hexagonal bar, the phase (spindle speed or spindle angular) of both
spindles must also be synchronized.

Preparation before Transferring a Workpiece
Before transferring a workpiece from chuck 1 to chuck 2, it is necessary to position the B-axis at
the workpiece transfer position. For this B-axis positioning, G53 command (machine coordinate
system) is used.
When positioning the B-axis using the G53 command, it is necessary to check the B-axis
coordinate value of the workpiece transfer position in the machine coordinate system.
The procedure used for checking the coordinate value in the machine coordinate system is
explained below.
1)
Manually move headstock 2 (B-axis) to Z0 position
of the workpiece presently clamped in chuck 1 on
headstock 1. See the illustration to the left.
