BOMA SAFETY

This section presents some of the most

important information and recommendations
to help you ride your Boma safely. Please take

time to read these pages. This section also

includes information about the location of

safety labels on the Boma.

Wear a Helmet

It’s a proven fact: helmets significantly reduce

the number and severity of head injuries. So

always wear an approved bicycle helmet.

Rider Only

The Boma is designed to only carry the rider;

you. Do not be tempted to carry passengers.

There are no handles, foot plates or seating for

a second person. A passenger could interfere

with your ability control the Boma and
maintain your balance.

Take Time to Learn and Practice

Even if you have ridden an off-road wheelchair

or Class 3 mobility vehicle before, ensure that
you take time to become familiar with how the

Boma works. Practice in a safe area until you

develop your skills and get accustomed to the
Boma’s size, weight and movement.

Be Alert for Off-Road Hazards

Off-road terrain can present a variety of

challenges. Continually scan the terrain for
unexpected turns, drop-offs, rocks, ruts, and

other hazards. Your speed should always be

slow enough to give you time to see and react

to any hazards.

Ride Within Your Limits

Do not ride beyond your personal abilities or

faster than conditions allow. Remember that

fatigue and tiredness can significantly reduce

your ability to make good, safe judgements.
Before operating, ensure that you feel

confident in your ability to operate the Boma.

If you have any concerns, it is important to

discuss these with the relevant health
professional.

DO NOT Drink and Ride

Alcohol and riding do not mix! Even one drink
can reduce your ability to respond to changing
conditions. Do not drink and ride and do not

allow others to drink and ride either.

Likewise, drugs even if prescribed by a Doctor -

can be dangerous while operating the Boma.
Consult your Doctor to be sure it is safe to

operate the Boma after taking medication.

Do not smoke while operating the Boma.

! WARNING

Carrying a passenger on the Boma

greatly reduces your ability to balance
and control the Boma and could cause a

crash and you or passenger could be
injured. Never carry passengers on the

Boma.
