4.3 Threshold optimisation

Lift the brass clamp and filter spindle clear of the laser barrel.

Ex-

cessive

force

should

not

required.

the

filter

seems

stuck,

may be caught on the cateye output coupler or laser diode tubes.

In that case, it will be necessary to slide the cateye output coupler

tube,

and/or laser diode lens tube,

away from the filter assembly.

Take careful note of the diode orientation:

use a permanent marker

to draw a small dot at the top of the diode tube so that you have

a point of reference when reinserting the diode tube.

Release the

LD set screws, slide the diode tube away from the filter assembly

by about 10 mm, then tighten the LD set screws a little to hold the

diode tube in place.

Do the same for the cateye/output coupler as-

sembly – use a ball driver to gently slide the wires away from the

filter assembly (see fig. 4.3), then resecure the set screws to hold the

output coupler in place.

The filter assembly should then pull free.

Restore the diode lens tube and cateye/output coupler tubes back

to their original positions, fully inserted.

Turn the

DLC

on and adjust

CURRENT

to the threshold specified in

the laser test report.

Monitor the laser output power using a power meter a short distance

from the cateye assembly. It is helpful to recollimate the output after

the cateye; any lens can be used, at approximately the focal length

of that lens from the output coupler.

Monitor the beam spot using a

security camera or webcam.
