4.3
Initial Commissioning
The motor head moves to its home position when the compressed air is activated for the
first time.
The cylinders of the motor pincers move to their home positions when the compressed
air is activated for the first time.
Crushing hazard!
Maintain a safety distance to the motor head.
Systems should only be set up with great care and by suitably qualified personnel.
To ensure controlled processes and to prevent access by unauthorized persons, we
recommend you leave “Supervisor” level and log on as “Operator” after set-up.

Setup
4.4.1
Setting the Electrodes
The electrode distance depends on the individual characteristics of your components.
Set the electrode distance in the open position as short as possible for safety reasons
(< 6 mm).
The electrodes should be aligned in relation to each other.
The position of the electrodes in the quick changer (when used) can easily be set with
the optionally available adjusting gauge.
So you can speed up the change of fully worn electrodes.
Replace the quick changer incl. the electrodes with a new and already adjusted pair of
electrodes including the quick changer.
The advantage of this is that the reference run of the motor head needs not always to be
readjusted.
4.4.2
Setting the Welding Force
The correct welding force for the welding task must be determined through several trial
welding operations. A generally applicable rule is that the weld material does not splash
when the correct welding force is set.
Always start a new trial sequence with a high welding force and optimize the result by
reducing the welding force.
Reason: The higher the welding force, the lower the transitional resistance between the
components and the weaker the weld.
4.5
Integration in Automated Installations
Co-evaluate the AWS3 ready signal always by a higher-level stored-program
controller (SPC) when integrating the AWS3 in an automated installation.
There must be no triggering as long as the ready signal is “low” (measuring interval).
During this measuring interval, data is calculated, compared, and transferred to the
display and further interfaces

4.5.1
Connection to Field Bus Systems
The AWS3 can communicate via the following field bus systems:
MODBUS/TCP
Profibus-DP
Ethernet-IP
