The illustration opposite identifies the major components inside
system unit that are affected by the installation instructions in this
chapter.

video memory upgrade sockets: systems with 1 Mbyte of
video memory can be upgraded to have 2 Mbytes, providing
more colours and/or higher resolutions.

processor speed selection jumpers: these will need
changing if you upgrade to a faster Pentium processor. (See
Appendix A for more information.)

SIMM sockets: every system can be upgraded to a maximum
of 128 Mbytes of system memory by the use of single in-line
memory modules.

cache memory upgrade socket: you can improve the
performance of the computer by adding cache memory.

processor socket: you can upgrade the processor by replacing
it with one of higher performance.

5.25" removable-media drive bay: may be occupied by a
removable-media drive.

3.5" hard-disk drive (HDD) bay: this bay has room for two
one-inch high IDE hard disk drives.

Diskette/floppy disk ribbon cable connector.

CD-ROM signal ribbon cable connector.

Hard disk drive signal ribbon cable connector.

CD-ROM audio connector: this can be used only on Apricot
MS340 and LS340 systems.
