Security Access Registers

Issue 1, December 1995
Remote Access Code
The contents of the 606 Register can be used for entering modem programming mode remotely.
After the FAX machine answers, the remote user must wait for the “quiet time” between the FAX
tone, and then send a string of digits that will match the contents of the 606 Register. If the
Controller auto-answers it will send a DTMF “1” to the remote point to confirm that the Controller
has answered the call, and that the FAX machine is split away. The confirmation tone will not be
heard if the call is manually answered on the FAX side of the Controller. If the Controller detects
a match, modem carrier tone will be presented to the remote point for the predetermined time
defined in the 011 Register (see page 20). If the modem connects, the Controller will expect to
receive a string of digits that will match those of the contents of the 604 Register (see page 31).
Once the string of digits are confirmed, modem programming mode is entered.
If the modem fails to connect, the Controller will send a DTMF “D” to the remote point, and
then expect to receive a string of digits that will match those of the contents of the 603 Register.
If the 606 Register is empty, all remote programming access becomes unavailable.
Note:
When doing unattended modem programming to access an FBC Controller remotely, the local
device should continuously send the Remote Access Code to the remote FBC. This method of
sending the Remote Access Code is done to make certain that the Remote Access Code is sent
during the silent period (between the FAX tones) of the FAX machine. The remote FBC confirms
the Remote Access Code by finding a match in the 606 Register.
Local Security Code
The contents of the 609 Register will contain the security code for entering programming mode
locally. Upon an off hook condition, the user dialed digits are screened. If the digits dialed by the
user are matched with the contents of this register, modem carrier tone will be presented. Upon
connection, modem programming mode is entered. If the modem fails to connect after the
specified time defined by the 011 Register (see page 20), the Controller will enter DTMF
programming mode. The user may then continue to program with a DTMF instrument.
For further information on local programming, turn to page 16.
Note:
MITEL recommends entering a unique access code for programming access to the Controller.
