MXE CONTROLLER 192 GATEWAY LIMITATIONS
The MXe Controller has been shipped in two different versions since it was introduced (MXe and
MXe II). In MCD 4.2 a third version, the MXe III, is released. The original version has four AD21262
DSP devices on the main board, and the later MXe II has four AD21363 DSP devices. Both have
the same processor modules, but the MXe III has new processor modules with a faster processor
and DDR2 memory and SATA drives, along with the DSP devices from the MXe II.
The MXe II Controller can be configured as a 192 channel TDM gateway, as shown in the table
called MXe, MXe Server, and 192 Channel PSTN Gateway DSP Resources of the Technician's
Handbook. Although not shown in this table, it is possible to upgrade the original MXe Controller
to a 192 Gateway, but with some limitations since it does not have as much DSP resource
available. The original MXe Controller can only be used as a 192 Gateway when a second VEC
module is installed. The two options shown for the MXe II that do not have the second VEC
cannot be used, because they will not have enough DSP resources to function properly. The
MXe III Controller maintains the same configurations as the MXe II Controller, but the increased
processing power allows higher traffic rates and more features to be supported, although the
same DSP/EC limitations remain.
