FUNCTION AND LOCATION OF THE CONTROLS
1. [Channel] Rotary channel selector
By turning the knob clockwise you skip to the next channel. By turning it counterclockwise you will
reach the last channel.
2. Multifunction backlighted display .
It shows:
a. channel selected number( from 1 up 80)
b. the received signal strength and the power of the transmitting signal
c. AM/FM mode
d. RX/TX: TX =transmit mode; RX =receive mode
e. SCAN mode
f. Memorychannel M1, M2, M3
3. [TALKBACK ON/OFF]
In order to control the modulation, the own transmission can be shown by operation of the TALKBACK
switch (Talkback on) over the integrated loudspeaker.
4. [ESP/ANL-OFF] Doublefeature
[ESP] ESP 2-Noisekiller
The ESP 2 is fulfilling two functions at the same time.
In the first function the ESP 2 reduces the annoying noise and cracking with the receipt of very weak
signals. The second function begins if a stronger signal is received. Here the ESP 2 switches on
automatically an active bandpass filter which suppresses a still existing noise and cracking. Thus
the voice/modulation will be emphasised clearly from the background noises.
[ANL]
The Automatic Noise Limiter will be activated togester with the ESP-noiskiller-function to eliminate
noises caused by the car. This function can be activated only in AM mode.
5. [BRGIHT-DIM]
Switch for the adjustment of the display lighting during operation. You have the choice between
BRIGHT – Brightens background lighting
DIM - absorbed background lighting
6. [MIC] Microphone jack
Insert the mic-connector in this jack.
7. [ON/OFF-VOL] On/Off Volume-Control
In ‘’off’’ position your transceiver is off. Turn this control clockwise to switch on the unit. Turn the knob
clockwise a little more to set the audio level, until you get a comfortable reception.
8. [Squelch] Squelch Control
For maximum receiver sensivity the control must be regulated exactly where the receiver back-
ground noise disappears.
9. [RF-GAIN] (Radio Frequency) Gain Control
This function controls the reception sensitivity. To increase sensitivity simply turn it clockwise. Sensi-
tivity decreases turning it counterclockwise. Low sensitivity is useful when very strong signals are
present in the band.
10. [Mic Gain]
In TX mode, it controls the microphone amplification.
To get the best results, use the microphone and set the optimum position for both the distance from
your mouth and for the amplification level, asking to your partner when the modulation comes out
better.
11.-13. M1 – M3 Buttons
These buttons allows 3 channels to be memorized when needed.
Note
As soon as the ALAN 255 ESP from the current supply is separated becomes the stored channels
automatically deleted. It must take place then a reprogramming.
14. [AM/FM] Modulation Button
To select AM mode or FM mode
15. [SCAN] button
With this control, you can automatically seek for a busy channel.
Turn the Squelch clockwise until the background noise is no longer heard.
Press the ‘’SCAN’’ button: the transceiver will scan automatically all the channels until a carrier is
received.
