2. Safety Instructions

•

Follow these instructions for use. This document contains important information

about the operation and safety of this device. Please read this document carefully before using

the device and keep it for future reference.

•

This device may only be used to measure human body temperature (in the mouth, rectum or

armpit). Do not attempt to use the device in any other measurement location, such as in the ear,

as this could lead to incorrect readings and/or injury.

•

Do not use the device if you notice any damage or if you notice anything unusual.

•

For personal hygiene, we recommend cleaning the appliance – before fi rst use –

according to the «Cleaning and disinfection» instructions below.

•

The minimum measurement period must be observed without exception until you hear the sig-

nal tone! Depending on the measurement location, it may be necessary to continue measuring

after the signal tone, see section «Measurement method/normal body temperature».

•

Make sure that children do not use the appliance unattended; some parts are so small that they

could be swallowed.

•

Do not use the device near strong electromagnetic fi elds such as mobile phones or radio equip-

ment. Keep a minimum distance of 3.3 m from such devices when using this device.

•

Protect the device from knocks and blows!

•

Avoid bending the thermometer measuring probe by more than 45°!

•

Avoid ambient temperatures above 60 °C. NEVER boil the appliance!

•

To clean the device, use only the disinfectants specifi ed under «cleaning and disinfection».

•

We recommend that an accuracy test is carried out by an authorised laboratory for the instru-

ment every 2 years or after a mechanical impact (e.g. shock from falling).

ATTENTION:

The measurement result displayed by this device is not a diagnosis! Do not

rely solely on the measurement result.

Batteries and electronic devices must not be disposed of in household waste but must be

disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

  Protect from moisture.

  Type BF application part

Study the manual carefully before use.

3. Preparing the thermometer for use

To switch on the thermometer, press the On/Off button

 1

; a long signal tone indicates that the

thermometer is switched on. First a display test is carried out – all segments should be display-

ed. Then, if the ambient temperature is less than 32 °C, an «

---

» (“low“) and a fl ashing «

°C

»

appears on the display

 2

. The thermometer is now ready for measuring the temperature.

4. Functional test

Every time the thermometer is switched on, a function test is carried out automatically. In the

event of a malfunction (inaccurate measurement), «

ERR

» appears in the display

 2

. In this case the

device can no longer be used. Please contact your pharmacy for replacement (warranty check).

5. Using the thermometer

Select your preferred measuring method. During the measurement, the current temperature is

continuously displayed and the «

°C

» symbol fl ashes. If the signal tone sounds and the «

°C

» stops

fl ashing, this means that the measurement is fi nished, and the thermometer is ready for reading.

Depending on the measuring method, it could be necessary to continue the measurement longer than

is actual shows by the signal tone. Please refer «Measuring method/normal body temperature». The

thermometer can be switched off directly by briefl y pressing the On/Off button

 1

 – this extends bat-

tery life. Otherwise the thermometer switches off automatically after approx. 10 minutes.

6. Display the last measured value

When turning on

 1

the thermometer, the last measurement will be displayed with a «

M

»  („Memory“).

7. Measuring method/normal body temperature

*

7.1. Under the arm (axillary) / 34.7 - 37.3 °C (Adult) & 35.2 - 37.8 °C (Child)

Wipe the armpit with a dry cloth. Place the measuring sensor

 4

of the thermometer as far up in

the armpit as possible and clamp it to your body with your arm. This ensures that the room air

does not affect the measured value. Since the armpit takes longer to reach its stable temperatu-

re, wait

at least 5 minutes

 regardless of the beep.

7.2. In the mouth cavity (oral) / 35.5 - 37.5 °C (Adult) & 36.0 - 38.2 °C (Child)

Do not eat or drink anything warm or very cold 10 minutes before the measurement. The mouth

should be closed at least 2 minutes before starting a measurement. Place the thermometer with

the measuring sensor

 4

into one of the two tongue pockets, directly at the root of the tongue.

The measuring sensor should be in good contact with the tissue. Press your lips fi rmly together

and hold your mouth closed, so that the measurement result is not infl uenced by the air you are

breathing. Breathe calmly through your nose during the entire measurement process. If this is

not possible due to obstructed airways, another measuring method should be used.

Minimum measurement time: 30 seconds!

7.3. In the anus (rectal) / 36.6 - 38.0 °C (Adult) & 37.0 - 38.4 °C (Child)

For rectal measurement, it is best to lie on your back or on your side and bend your legs. To

avoid injuries, it is recommended to additionally grease the measuring tip (e.g. with Vaseline).

The measuring sensor

 4

of the thermometer is carefully inserted 2-3 cm into the rectum/anus.

If you are not sure about this method of measurement, you should consult a specialist for inst-

ruction/training.

Minimum measurement time: 30 seconds!

Don‘t be too strict about keeping within the exact normal temperature ranges – rather consider

them as guidelines that should be in line with your physical condition.

8. Cleaning and disinfection

For disinfecting the thermometer at home, use an isopropyl alcohol swab (70%) or a cotton cloth

moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol to wipe off coarse, visible surface dirt from the thermo-

meter measuring probe

 5

(= complete cross-hatched area). Note: Please observe the applicati-

on and safety instructions of the disinfectant manufacturer. Then immerse the thermometer

measuring probe

 5

(= complete cross-hatched area) in 70% isopropyl alcohol for at least 5 mi-

nutes (max. 24 hours). Let the disinfectant dry for 1 minute before using the thermometer again.

Avoid immersing or wiping the display

 2

 to protect it from damage.

9. Battery replacement

As soon as the «

»  symbol appears on the right of the display

 2

, the battery is exhausted, and

it must be changed. To do this, remove the cover of the battery

compartment

 3

and replace the exhausted battery with the «+» sign pointing upwards. Make

sure that the same type of battery is used. Batteries are available in every electrical shop. For

disposal, please observe the instructions under «Safety instructions».
