Load Carrying
‘Latch secure’ indicator
Ensure that the rear seat backrests are securely latched in the
upright position when the seat is in use and when loads are
carried in the luggage area behind.
A ‘latch secure’ indicator, located on the top of the larger portion
of the rear seat backrest (see upper inset), will pop up when the
catches are released, showing a red band.
After returning the seats to their upright position, ensure the
indicator has dropped back into the backrest and that the red band
is no longer visible - this confirms that the larger portion of the
backrest is secure.
When returning the seat to the upright position, ensure that the
rear seat belts are not trapped behind the backrest.
NOTE:
The ‘latch secure’ indicator does NOT relate to the smaller
portion of the backrest - this must be checked individually.
Accommodating long loads
Remove the head restraint from the front passenger seat
(see ‘HEAD RESTRAINTS’, page 17), move the front passenger
seat forwards as far as possible and fully recline the backrest. Finally,
fold the appropriate part of the rear seat backrest fully forward as
shown.
DO NOT carry long loads which require driving with the
tailgate open - poisonous fumes will be drawn into the interior
of the car!
ROOF RACKS
To ensure absolute safety, only fit accessories that have been
designed and tested for your car. Your MG Rover dealer will
provide details of approved tow bars and roof racks.
The total load must NEVER exceed that given in ‘Technical Data’,
and must include the weight of the roof rack within the load (see
‘TOWING WEIGHTS’, page 187).
A loaded roof rack can reduce the stability of the car,
particularly when cornering and encountering cross winds. All
loads should be evenly distributed and secured within the periphery
of the roof rack.
