5.3.2 Upper System Leak Test
Use this procedure to identify leaks above the filter tape. The lower system leak test in section 5.3.1
should be performed first.
1. Navigate to the TEST>LEAK TEST menu and raise the nozzle if needed.
2. Insert the Nozzle Seal Tool with the hole between the nozzle and vane. Note the proper
alignment in Figure 5-4.

3. Press NOZZLE to lower the nozzle down onto the sealing tool.
4. Verify the leak check valve is open and then press the PUMP ON button to turn on the pump.
Monitor the flow rate on the E-BAM display until it stabilizes at 16.7 lpm.
5. Press the LEAK ON button to lock the flow controller in its current position.
6. Close the leak check valve and monitor the flow rate.
a. If the flow rate falls below 1.5 lpm, the upper system leak check is successful. Turn off
the pump and proceed to the Filter Tape Leak Test (section 5.3.3).
b. If the flow rate does not fall below 1.5 lpm (and the lower system leak test in section
5.3.1 was successful), then there is a leak located above the nozzle. The issue is
likely due to faulty or failed O-rings within the receiver or in the PM2.5 size selector (if
installed). It can also be caused by an improper inlet tube connection. Contact the
Met One Instruments, Inc. service department if additional assistance is needed. See
section 1.2.
7. Once the failure is resolved and a successful leak check is achieved, remove the rubber
sealing tool, remove the leak check valve, install the tape and replace the size selective
inlet(s).
8. Return to the Operate Menu and select START SAMPLE to resume normal operations.
