Before first use
• Read operating and safety instructions carefully!
• Check voltage in your home (has to correspond
with information at the bottom of the coffee-
maker)
• Insert plug of the base; to extend or shorten the
cord use the winding below the bottom of base
• Clean the kettle before first use by boiling 2 times
with maximum water capacity.
Usage of the electric kettle
1. Open the lid by pressing the button . Lid is not
removable.
2. Fill in needed amount of water. The water amount
is readable on the water level scale on right and
left side of the handle
.
• Do not fill the kettle beyond the maximum capacity
(see marking).
• Do not put kettle into operation without water. Fill
it at least to the “Min.” marking.
3. After filling close lid by pressing it downwards .
4. Place kettle on the base.
5. Decide needed water temperature with the
adjusting knob :
• Not for all applications it is necessary to bring the
water to boil.
• You can save energy by turning the adjusting knob
all the way to the left position ( ). Appliance swit-
ches off before water comes to boil. The reachable
temperature by using this function depends on the
water level you have chosens.
• If you need boiling water place the adjusting knob
to the right position to the arrester ( )
6. Switch on the appliance . Lighting in watertank
shows, that appliance is in progress.
7. After having reached the chosen temperature (see
point ) the appliances switches off automatically,
lighting ceases.
8. Operating can be stopped anytime – use either
On/Off switch (6) or lift the kettle from the base.
Dry boil protection
The heater is equipped with an overheating protector.
Should you switch on the appliance accidentally wit-
hout water or if water is completely exhaled (e.g. if lid
is not closed) the dry boil protection switches off
automatically.
In this case leave appliance to cool down before use it
again.
Lime filter
The lime filter in spout area keeps back lime particles
while pouring. For cleaning the lime filter: pull it
upwards out of the kettle
.
Cleaning and maintenance
Before cleaning always remove plug from socket!
Cleaning
Use a soft damp cloth and washing-up liquid to clean
the exterior. Clean appliance and cord never under
flowing water or immerse in water. Do not use acrid
or abrasive detergents.
Descaling
Lime disposal in appliance is not avoidable. Only
regularly descaling ensures perfect operation of your
electric kettle. Please descale as soon as a visible lime
coating has built up on the warming plate of the
kettle. Use Swirl
®
Descaler or another adequate des-
caling product. Use the descaler following the instruc-
tions of the supplier of the descaler on the package.
Important:
Execute necessarily 2 – 3 boiling cycles after descaling
to clean the appliance.
Safety instructions

Connect the appliance only to a approved socket.

Use appliance for home use only. This appliance is
not designed for commercial usage.

Use the upper bin only together with the corre-
sponding own base station.

When the appliance is switched on, some parts
become hot. Do not touch – risk of burning!

Use appliance only for boiling water, do not heat
other liquids.

Fill in only clear, cold water.
!
Place the appliance only on a dry, flat and stable
surface.
!
Do not use the appliance with open lid. Do not
open the lid while operation.
!
Do not leave the appliance unattended while it is in
progress.
!
Do not use without the lime filter.
!
Take care of leaving hot steam.
!
Appliance shall not be filled beyond the “Max.”
marking – effervesce leads to risk of burning.

Always pull the plug out of the socket before
cleaning or in case of absence for a long time.
!
Never immerse the appliance in water.
!
This appliance is not dedicated for use by persons
(incl. children) with limited physical, sensorical or
mentally ability or lack of experience or/and for
want of knowledge unless they are supervised by a
person, who is responsible for their security or got
instruction how the appliance has to be used.
!
Always keep the appliance out of the reach of
children, children shall be supervised to secure that
they will not play with the appliance.
!
The replacement of the cord and all other repairs
must be carried out by authorized Melitta
Customer Service Centres only or by a person of
similar qualification
