DIRECTIONAL GYRO INDICATORS
MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. Directional Gyro Indicators
(Ref. Figure 201) The directional gyro indica
tors are gasket-sealed, direct-reading
instruments which provide a visual display of
helicopter heading. A knob on the lower left
corner is for setting the compass card heading,
and permits pilot selection of desired direction
al flight heading. The instruments use 28 Vdc
electrical power from circuit breaker CB105
(L/H command) or CB135 (R/H command).
NOTE:
To eliminate possibility of electrical in
terference with KR85 ADF equipment in
stalled, a noise filter is included as part of
the ADF option. For more information on
the filter installation, refer to the applicable
ADF manual for your equipment.
NOTE:
These instruments do not provide infor
mation to the avionics systems. Gyros that
do interact with avionics equipment are cov
ered in Chapter 97 of this manual.
A. Directional Gyro Indicator Operating,
Handling and Shipping Guidelines
High value gyroscope instru
ments require special handling
at all times. Review manufacturers and
manual cautions (Ref. Sec. 95-10-20, Atti
tude Gyro Indicator Operating, Handling
and Shipping Guidelines).
B. Directional Gyro Indicator
Troubleshooting
(Ref. Figure 201 and Table 201)
2. Directional Gyro Indicator Replacement
(1). Insure that all electrical power is off.
(2). Remove instrument panel hood and left
and right fairings.
(3). Remove attaching hardware from front
of directional gyro indicator. Remove
clamp assembly (if installed), discon
nect wire harness plug (P507 in L/H
command helicopters, P138 in R/H
command helicopters) and remove
indicator from instrument panel.
(4). To install, position indicator in mount
ing position in instrument panel.
Connect wire harness plug (P507 or
P138) and install clamp assembly (if
needed). Install attaching hardware to
front of indicator.
(5). Install instrument panel hood and left
and right fairings.
3. Directional Gyro Indicator Inspection
(1). Inspect wire harness and wire termi
nals at terminal board/modular block
and circuit breaker.
(2). Inspect clamp assembly (if installed)
and indicator for proper installation.
