Steering System
The Electro-Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering (EHPAS) system is comprised of an electrically
operated hydraulic pump unit, which supplies hydraulic fluid to the steering system to achieve
optimum power assistance under all vehicle operating and environmental conditions.
For details of the steering system specifications, please refer to: Steering System Specification.
Power assistance is proportional dependent upon vehicle speed and steering inputs from the steering
angle sensor.
NOTE: Use the recommended EHPAS fluid, please refer to EHPAS Fluid Specification.
For details of how to complete the power steering fluid level check procedure, please refer to:
EHPAS Fluid Bleed and Fill.
NOTE: If removing the steering wheel, it is extremely important that the steering angle sensor is
not rotated, as over rotation of the sensor will damage the clock spring within the sensor, and
the sensor will no longer function. McLaren Customer Racing recommends inserting a pop rivet
into the location pin to prevent movement when the steering wheel is not fitted, see Figure 73
below.

NOTE: If fitting a new MRM it is important that the road wheels are parallel and straight ahead
before installing the MRM and steering wheel.
NOTE: A fine tune position of the steering angle sensor is required if a new MRM is installed, this
can be completed with the MDS tool.
