4.4 Using the generator
Before connecting any utility leave the engine to run for
a few minutes so that it gradually reaches the operating
temperature.
Each generator is equipped with two outlets:
-
both single-phase for models FM 3000 – 5000 –
8000 (Fig. 3 Ref. 5-10)
-
one single-phase and one three-phase outlet for the
model FM 9000 (Fig. 3 Ref. 4-11).
The power available for the outlets is that indicated on
the adhesive label carrying the technical characteristics.
The sum of absorption of all the
utilities connected to the generator must never
exceed the continuous power value of the generator.
4.5 Protections and warning signals
The generator is equipped with several protections and
warning signals which safeguard it against malfunctioning
and improper use. These are:
-
AC CIRCUIT PROTECTION
: in case of a short-
circuit or overload, the automatic thermal switch
(Fig. 3 Ref. 2-B) trips interrupting current delivery
to the outlets.
To restore the thermal switch contact, after
having identified and eliminated the cause of the
cut-out and waiting for about a minute, press the
thermal switch button resetting it to the original
position (Fig. 3 Ref. 2-8).
-
DC OUTPUT PROTECTION
: in case of an overload,
short-circuit or polarity inversion of the DC outlet
terminals, the automatic thermal switch (Fig. 3 Ref.
7) trips interrupting current delivery.
To restore the thermal switch contact, after having
identified and eliminated the cause of the cut-out
and waiting for about a minute, press the thermal
switch button resetting it to the original position (Fig.
3 Ref. 7).
-
LOW OIL PROTECTION
: this protection
automatically turns off the engine when the oil level
falls to below the minimum. This is signalled by a red
light located on the engine (Fig. 4 Ref. 1).
4.6 Switching off
Before switching off, disconnect any loads connected to
the outlets, close the fuel tap and let the engine idle for
about 10 seconds.
To switch off the engine, position the on/off switch to
“OFF” (Fig. 4 Ref. 2).
5. MAINTENANCE
5.1 Preamble
Any maintenance operation on
the generator must be carried out with the engine off
and leaving it to cool down sufficiently, and must
only be carried out by authorised and suitably trained
personnel.
It is recommended to scrupulously follow the instructions
in the manual provided by the engine manufacturer and
attached to each generator.
It is important to regularly inspect and carry out
maintenance on the generator. The frequency of
maintenance should be decided on the basis of the
number of hours of operation.
DESCRIPTION OPERATION
Spark plug
Check and clean every 100 hours
Replace every 300 hours
Engine oil
First oil change after 20 hours
Periodic oil change every 100 hours
Tank fuel filter
Check and clean every 300 hours
Fuel filter cup
Check and clean every 100 hours
Air filter
Clean every 50 hours
Replace every 300 hours
Cooling fins
Check and clean every 300 hours
Safety of the user depends on
how efficiently maintenance is carried out.
Carefully follow all the instructions relative to
inspections and maintenance.
Before any maintenance operation, switch off the
engine and disconnect the spark plug.
Never work near a fire or open flames (such as gas
heaters etc.) as these present a danger of fire and
explosion of fuel vapours.
5.2 Spark plug maintenance
SPARK PLUG TYPE NGK BPR6ES
The carbon residues which with use deposit on the spark
plugs must periodically be removed. Use a small metal
brush or a specific detergent.
Adjust the distance between the spark plug electrodes
resetting a value of 0.7 – 0.8 mm.
For further information consult
the engine use and maintenance manual.
Dispose of the solvents used for
spark plug cleaning in an appropriate manner.
Carry out the cleaning operations
wearing protective gloves and glasses.
