The Setup Utility is a hardware c onfiguration program built into
your co m puter’s BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). It runs and
maintai ns a variety of hardware function s. It is men u-driven
software, which allows you to easily config ure and chan g e the
settin g s .
The BIOS contains m anufacture’s default setti ngs for the
co m puter’s standard ope rations. However, there are occasions
when you m ay be required to m odify the default settin g s in the
BIOS .
The BIOS allows you to set up passwords to limi t access to users .
This is an import ant feature because a grea t deal of vital
informati on is carried within the compu ter nowadays . Unauthorized
access can be prev ented. Later in this chapter, you will learn how
to use this security feature.

First turn on the powe r. When the BIOS performs the POST
(Power-On Self Test), press DEL key quickly to activate the Setup
Utility .
You may need to press DEL key fairly
quickly. Once the system begins to load operating system,
you may have to retry by cycle-power on again

When you have finishe d modifying the BIOS settings, exit the
BIOS. It takes a few seconds to record chan g es in the CMOS.
