Indicator lamp
The indicator lamp lights up when the tool is plugged in.

If you find one of the following symptoms, ask your local
Makita Service Center.
Status Action to be taken
The indicator lamp does not
light up even though the tool
is plugged in and the switch
trigger is pulled.
Make sure the power cord is
plugged into power supply.
The power cord is broken.
Ask your local Makita Service
Center.
Even though the indicator
lamp lights up, the tool does
not start when the switch
trigger is pulled.
The motor or the switch is
broken. Ask your local Makita
Service Center.
When the power cord is
plugged into power supply,
the indicator lamp does not
light up. However, the tool
starts when the switch trigger
is pulled.
The indicator lamp is broken.
Ask your local Makita Service
Center.

CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged before carrying out
any work on the tool.
Installing or removing the shear
blades
CAUTION:
When replacing the shear blades,
always wear gloves and attach the blade cover so
that your hands and face do not directly contact
the blades.
Removing the shear blades
1. Place the tool upside down.

2. Loosen four screws with a screwdriver and
remove the shear blades.

3. Remove the crank from the shear blades.

NOTE: The crank may remain in the tool.
Installing the shear blades
1. Prepare the crank, 4 removed screws, and new
shear blades.

2. Remove the blade cover from the old shear
blades, and then attach it to the new blades.

3. Place the tool upside down.

4. Apply a small amount of grease to the periphery
of the crank. Attach washer 8, the gear, washer 28, and
crank to the pin.

5. Adjust the crank so that the pits on the crank are
lined up on the alignment line.

6. Slide the shear blades so that the hole on the
base plate is positioned at the center of the rings of
blades.

7. Secure the shear blades temporarily by passing
one of the removed screws through the hole.

8. Turn the shear blades upside down and install
them so that the pin on the tool fit in the hole on the
shear blades. Make sure that the shear blades are set
in place securely.
9. Tighten the three screws, and then tighten one
screw removed from the blades (used for temporarily
securing).

10. Remove the blade cover, and then turn on the tool
to check if the tool works properly.
NOTICE:
When the shear blades do not operate
properly, the blades do not engage the crank
properly. Remove the blades and install them
again.
Installing or removing chip receiver
Optional accessory
CAUTION:
When installing or removing the
chip receiver, always wear gloves and attach the
blade cover so that hands and face do not directly
contact the blades.
The chip receiver receives cut-off leaves and alleviates
collecting thrown-away leaves. It can be installed on
either side of the tool.
To install the chip receiver, press it to the shear blades
so that the hooks fit into the holes of the shear blades.

To remove the chip receiver, press the levers on both
sides to release the hooks.

NOTICE:
Never try to remove the chip receiver
by an excessive force with its hooks locked in the
holes of the blades.
Engage the extension cord

3. Extension cord
When engaging the extension cord, secure it to the
tool's cord with the hook complete. Attach the hook
about 100 - 200 mm from the extension cord connector.
This will help prevent unintentional disconnection.
