Checking and Tensioning Untimed Double-Knife Drive Belts

Knife drive systems are fitted with a drive belt which must be tensioned correctly for the knives to stroke properly.

DANGER

To prevent bodily injury or death from the unexpected start-up of the machine, always stop the engine and remove the
key before making adjustments to the machine.

IMPORTANT:

To ensure the service life of the belt and the knife drive,

NEVER

overtighten a drive belt.

1.

Shut down the engine, and remove the key from the ignition.

2.

Open the left endshield. For instructions, refer to

Opening Endshields, page 37

Check the tension on knife drive belt (C). A properly
tensioned drive belt should deflect 24

1 1/8 in.) when 133 N (30 lbf) of force is applied at

the midspan of the belt.

Loosen two bolts (A).

NOTE:

The belt guide has been removed from the illustration for
the sake of clarity.

5.

If the tension on the belt needs to be adjusted, turn
adjuster bolt (B) clockwise to move the drive motor until
the proper level of tension is achieved.
