Required equipment

Prior to performing this task, the following equipment must be available:

1.

WaveStar

®

CIT PC

2. CAT5 crossover LAN cable with RJ-45/RJ-45 connectors (see chapter 4,

4-48, “CIT connection (LAN crossed)” (p. 4-74)

3. SDH/SONET analyzer

The required transmission rate depends on the circuit packs used. The optical
circuit pack with the lowest transmission rate determines the required transmission
rate of the analyzer. For the test setup mentioned below, an STM-16/OC-48
analyzer is required because OP2G5 circuit packs are used.

4. ESD Wrist Strap.

Prerequisites

Prior to performing this task, you must logged in to

WaveStar

CIT as Super User (see

chapter 5, section

“Starting the

CIT application” (p. 5-18)

CIT User Login has been enabled during

WaveStar

CIT installation.

NOTE:

If DCC protection is required, the DCC channels of all used 1+1 MSP/APS

ports must be configured correctly (see section

“Provision DCC” (p. 10-12)

Background information

The MSP/APS can be established

•

unidirectional and non-revertive for optical STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12,
STM-16/OC-48 and STM64/OC-192 ports.

•

bi-directional and non-revertive for optical STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12,
STM-16/OC-48 and STM64/OC-192 ports.

•

bi-directional operation and revertive. Supported are line rates of STM-1/OC-3,
STM-4/OC-12, STM-16/OC-48 and STM64/OC-192 ports.

•

uni-directional operation and revertive. Supported are line rates of STM-1/OC-3,
STM-4/OC-12, STM-16/OC-48 and STM64/OC-192 ports.

Furthermore, an MSP/APS can only be established between two separate circuit packs
(which are of the same type), i.e. it is not allowed to establish an MSP/APS between
two ports on the same circuit pack. An MSP/APS between different ports on different
circuit packs can be configured independently, e.g. one port of circuit pack 1 can be
protected with one port of circuit pack 2 while the second port on circuit pack 1 is
protected by circuit pack 3.
