Mantel Requirements
Use the table below to determine the maximum mantel depth allowed. The mantel depth (measured from the
non-combustible facing) must fall within the shaded portion of the table.
Any material above the fireplace that protrudes more than 3/4” (19mm) from the non-combustible facing is
considered a mantel and must meet the mantel requirements.
Mantel Column Clearances
Combustible mantel columns (legs) require a 0” (0mm) clearance to the side of the fireplace (they must
be to the side of the fireplace).
Non-combustible mantel columns do not have a minimum clearance.
