Using the Steam Baskets and Rice Bowl

Your steamer is equipped with three steam baskets.

Using a Single Steam Basket

1.  Place the food in steam basket no.1.
2.  Place the steam basket on the steamer base and put the lid on.

Using Multiple Steam Baskets

1.  Place the food in the steam baskets. It is recommended that you put the largest pieces of food in

the lowest steam basket.

2.  Stack the steam baskets on the steamer base and put the lid on.

Using a Single Steam Basket with the Rice Bowl

1.  Place rice and water in the rice bowl.
2.  Place the rice bowl in steam basket no.1.
3.  Place the steam basket on the steamer base and put the lid on.

  Useful Hints and Tips

•

Steaming times stated in the charts and recipes are intended as a guide. If you have followed

the instructions and the food is still not sufficiently cooked, simply steam for a little longer until

satisfied.

•

A single layer of food steams faster than several layers. More cooking time is required for a larger

quantity of food, for example 2lb of cauliflower will need a longer steaming time to steam than

1lb.

•

For best results, make sure pieces of food are similar in size. If pieces vary in size and layering is

required, place the smaller pieces on the top.

•

Do not crowd food in the steaming basket or rice bowl. Arrange the food with spaces between

the pieces to allow for maximum steam flow.

•

When steaming large quantities of food, remove the lid about halfway through the steaming time

and check using a long handled utensil, protecting your hands from the steam with oven gloves.

•

Never steam meat, poultry or seafood from frozen. Always thaw completely first.

•

All the times stated in the

Recipes

section are based on the use of cold water, but to slightly

reduce the steaming time you may use warm (but not boiling) water to start. Stated times are

guidelines only. Please adjust for personal taste and food type.

•

The rice bowl is an ideal container for steaming other foods such as fruit, vegetables, vegetable

pates, puddings, etc.

•

Always place the largest pieces of food with the longest cooking time in the lowest basket.

•

You may place different foods in the upper and lower baskets, but as condensation will drip from

the upper basket be sure the flavours complement each other.
