LittleCloud Puffin Manual / Manuel Puffin 4
Make sure to keep your safety margin big enough.
Harness
The Puffin can be flown with any approved harness. We advice
that you fly with the waist strap open to at least 43cm. You can
use any kind of seats, but be aware that a seat with a board will
increase the weight shift effect.
Advanced Flights
The Puffin offers a huge potential for usable speed, and remains
solid during turbulent conditions, hence offering great flying po-
tential. Nevertheless we’d like to point out that when flying the
Puffin, these strong conditions will not become calm, nor will the
Puffin transform a beginner pilot to an expert.
Flying in strong conditions/flying incidents :
No pilot, nor wing is immune from the potential of a collapse.
However, by flying actively the risk can be virtually eliminated.
Always fly more actively in strong conditions and try to anticipate
the reactions of the wing. Always be aware of your altitude and avoid
over piloting the wing. We recommend that you never let go of the
controls, and that you always fly in conditions suited to your ability.
In turbulent conditions the pressure in the wing can change rapidly,
you will feel this in the controls, aim to maintain a constant
pressure of the wing by actively flying; if you feel a loss of pressure
pull down quickly on the brakes until the pressure is restored
then release. It is not necessary to permanently fly with a lot of
brake, be aware of your stall point and always pay attention
to your air speed.
In the event of an unavoidable asymmetric or frontal collapse, fix
your eyes on a distant landmark and try to maintain your course
by using your controls and by weight shifting in the harness. Reach
for the contact point of the collapsed area and pull and release the
hand quickly, the wing should re-inflate itself. A strong and posi-
tive action will not cause any problems as long as it is brief.
During accelerated flight the leading edge may become affected,
so remain vigilant during strong conditions.
SIV/ FLYING INCIDENT
We don’t recommend any kind of SIV with this gliders.
Paramotor & Winch Flights
The Puffin is suitable for both paramotor and winch flights for ex-
perimented pilots. Be sure to time your landings accordingly as
the weight of the PPG will increase your airspeed, safe your energy
for the flare at the end. You are urged to seek advice and training
from professionals in those fields. Towing characteristics are
very similar to all others paragliders and make sure the towers are
professionals!
Folding & Packing /
maintenance
We don’t suggest any particular packing techniques, accordion
folding is not recommended!
Always avoid folding your wing along the same folds each time. A
glider is properly folded when it can fit in its bag. Never store your
wing folded when damp, it will damage the material. Dampness
can also affect the shape of the wing’s ‘wall’ during inflation.
Avoid storage in any high temperature area.
Your Puffin should be serviced every 200 hours or each year, by a
recognized LittleCloud service dealer.
Reserve
The reserve parachute should be an integral part of your flying
equipment. Ultra-light weight, low volume models now exist.
We strongly recommend you mount your reserve in the ventral position
and its risers should be connected at the same point as the wing risers,
for the following reasons: the handle is visible and can be pulled to the
right or to the left easier to find and deploy in an emergency.
Be aware of the consequences of using a reserve in strong wind!
Conclusion
We believe that our sport should always be driven by pure pleasure.
Don’t skip any stages of the process, and before each flight make sure
that you check your mental state, your technical skills in relation to
the day and the weather conditions. You should also have your wing
serviced if it shows any changes in handling (reduced speed, infla-
tion feeling different, or parachuting).
Feel free to contact if you have any questions in relation to
the Puffin and its use.
