Better Bath® 300 Series Wall Surround Installation Manual
Installation
Note:
All caulks, adhesives, sealants
MUSt
be compatible with ABS.
1.
Alcove walls
MUSt
be plumb, straight, and square for best fit. Wall panels are to be clean and dry.
Alcove walls are to be smooth, clean, dry, and free of protruding objects as well.
2.
To prevent corner deflection, it is recommended to install a vertical piece of 3/4” cleat stock in each
corner. The cleat stock should be positioned on top of the tub or shower pan flange and secured into
alcove corners. The length of the cleats should be as follows:
A.
Tub surrounds – 56 1/2”
B.
35428 shower pan surrounds – 64 1/2”
C.
All other shower surrounds – 66 1/2”
3.
Test fit of all (3) panels in alcove prior to installation is recommended.
4.
Ensure that panel adhesive selected for securing wall panels specifies use on ABS plastics.
5.
Install either side panel first. Apply a vertical 1/4” bead of adhesive every 4” to 6” and one around
the entire perimeter of the panel. Position panel with bottom edge resting on the tub/pan deck,
overlapping the tub/pan flanges, and the back edge resting against the back wall. Using firm hand
pressure or wall roller, smooth out the entire panel against the sidewall. Flash (pull) panel away from
wall. At this stage only, remove the release paper from foam tape and reposition the panel. Once again,
use firm hand pressure or a hand roller to smooth out the entire panel against the wall.
6.
Install the opposite side panel in the same manner as instructed in step 5.
7.
Apply a bead of siliconized caulk into the vertical grooves of both installed side panels. Be sure caulk
specifies use with ABS plastics.
8.
Install back panel by applying adhesive to the back panel in the same manner as the side panels; not
forgetting attention to the soap dish cavity. Setting panel on top of tub/pan deck, insert one edge of
the back panel into the vertical joint of side panel. Set panel on top of tub/pan deck and against wall.
Using firm hand pressure or a wall roller, smooth out panel against the wall. Flash (pull) panel away
from wall. At this time, remove release paper from foam tape, and reset panel by inserting both edges
into vertical joints of side panels. With bottom edge of panel resting on tub/pan deck, press the panel
to the wall, moving from the middle to the outside edge. Using firm hand pressure or a wall roller,
smooth out panel against the wall.
9.
After tub/shower pan and surround have been cleaned and free of dust, ensure that installation is
watertight.
A.
If rivets are used; pre-drill an oversized pilot hole and apply small amount of caulk to hole before
inserting rivet.
Failure to follow the instructions provided in this manual may result in injury,
component damage, or voiding of the component warranty.
