TrainMaster Command Control operations
TrainMaster Command Control operations
T
rainMaster Command Control is the advanced model railroad control system from Lionel. To
operate your train set in the Command Control environment, you need a Command Base
(available separately, 6-12911) and a CAB-1 Remote Controller (available separately, 6-12868).
Your commands are sent by the CAB-1 Remote Controller to the Command Base, which then
translates the command into digital code. That code is sent through the outside rails to your train set,
which will not respond until it recognizes its unique ID#. TrainMaster Command Control gives you
the power to operate multiple Command-equipped locomotives on the same track at the same time.
Keep in mind that track power is like gasoline in the tank of a car—it gives you the power to go
places, but it doesn’t tell you where to go or how fast to get there.
Operating your locomotive in the Command Control environment
1. Turn off track power and plug-in the Command Base.
Be sure that the Command Base
is connected to the outside rail or to the Common/Ground/U terminal on your track power supply.
2. Place your train set on Lionel or Lionel-compatible O-72 or larger track.
Couple the cars as shown in Figure 1 on page 6. Be careful to align the infrared
housings as well.
3. Increase track voltage to full power or 19 volts AC.
On PowerMasters, slide the
CMD/CONV switch to CMD. Program Track Power Controllers to Command Control operation.
This train set was designed to operate best with a transformer capable of providing a six-
amp minimum output. Turning off the passenger car lights will decrease the current
requirements.
4. Press ENG, enter the ID#, and press AUX1 for the prototypical pantograph
start-up sequence
with pantograph sounds followed by the full RailSounds sound system
start-up. For immediate RailSounds sound system start-up, press
ENG
, enter the ID#, and press
the
HORN
button. All Lionel locomotives come factory-programmed as ID# 1. To change the
ID#, see page 29.
5. Throttle up and move ‘em out!
Your locomotive will respond to every command from your
CAB-1 Remote Controller.
Operating the passenger cars in the TMCC environment
E
ach passenger car features a lighted interior, opening doors, and a tilting mechanism. In the TMCC
environment, the doors are opened and closed using the CAB-1 Remote Controller. To open the left
side doors, press
AUX1
and

. You may choose to lock the doors from opening on a certain side using the switches
located under the roof-top hatch on each car. The switched are illustrated in Figure 2 on page 7.
Any open door will close automatically as the train begins to move, unless they are locked
in the open position.
Demo Mode
To demonstrate the tilting function in the TMCC environment, you may press
BRAKE
while the
train set is not moving. All the cars will tilt left, return to center, tilt right, and return to center. You
may repreat the sequence by pressing
BRAKE
again. Listen as the RailSounds sound system play
sounds to accompany the movement of the cars.
