Set-up and procedure
1
Drain engine cooling system.
2
Hold the lower knob (
6
) on the expandable
rubber adapter (
7
) and turn the top ten-
sion knob (
5
) counter-clockwise until all
tension has been relieved (
→ fig. 1
,
A
).
3
Wipe inner diameter of filler neck or expan-
sion bottle with a clean rag to remove any
coolant residue. Many coolants act as
lubricants and can cause the cooling sys-
tem adapter (
1
) to slip out during pressure
testing.
4
Insert expandable adapter plug (
7
) into the
filler neck (
8
) of the radiator or expansion
tank.
5
While holding the bottom knob (
6
), rotate
the top knob (
5
) of the adapter (
1
) clock-
wise until adapter plug (
7
) fully engages
the interior wall of the filler neck (
8
).
6
Connect the vacuum pump assembly (
2
)
to the cooling system adapter (
1
) utilizing
the quick coupler connection (
9
). Attach an
air-connector (not included) (11) to fitting
(10) on the vacuum pump assembly (
2
)
(
→ fig.1
,
C
).
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap or
expansion tank cap while the engine
is at operating temperature. Always
allow the engine to cool before
removing the radiator cap or expan-
sion tank cap. The cooling system is
under pressure. Failure to allow the
engine to cool before opening the
cooling system could result in seri-
ous injuries.
NOTE
To test the adapter plug connection,
slowly pull up on the adapter (
1
).
The adapter plug (
7
) should hold firmly
in the filler neck (
8
). If necessary, tighten
the adapter plug (
7
) by adjusting the
tension knobs (
5
,
6
) (
→ fig.1
,
B
).
