Steps to pull pants down and
back up or change briefs
(disposable underwear with side
tapes) using hygiene sling
1) After placing hygiene sling and attaching all
loops to the sling bar, lift person. Unbuckle
pants/ belt before lifting. Leaving legs
uncrossed makes brief removal easier.
•While person is suspended in the sling, pull
pants down as far as you can, to leg straps.
Or pull off side tapes and remove brief.
•Set person down on toilet or commode
assuring they are sitting safely on the
surface.
•Unhook leg straps from sling bar.
•Pull pants the rest of the way down. Remove
the other straps from the slingbar (particularly
if you are not staying next to the person).
2) When ready to lift again, pull pants waist
and thigh area of pants way up so above
where the leg straps will go (stacking them up
above the leg strap). This will make the pants
available to pull to the waist when lifted.
•Place hygiene sling, attach all loops to sling
bar and lift person. To place brief, leave
straps uncrossed. Lift person and place brief,
connect side tapes while suspended.
3) Now pull the pants you had “stacked” back
up to the waist.
