How To... Replace the Alternator Belt

Special Service Tools: NONE

1. Remove the side shrouds. See “How

To…” in this section.

2. Index the location of the tensioning bolt

to the alternator mounting bracket, and
then loosen the tensioning bolt.

3. Loosen the pivot bolt, and then rotate

the alternator until the belt can be
removed from the alternator pulley and
the intermediate pulley.

4. Install new alternator belt in reverse order. Position the

alternator belt on the far left groove of the alternator
flywheel pulley (towards user side) and in the center of
the alternator pulley (large pulley). Then tighten the belt
back to the index mark or 70-80 lbs.
