6.1.2 Main window overview
Thermometer Utility main window consists of few parts, shown and marked on fig 14.
Tool bar on top, allows to select and to connect with chosen thermometer. During startup,
the program searches for compatible devices on available serial communication ports.
Afterwards, the amount of devices found is displayed on status bar (bottom part of the win-
dow). This allows to use several separate thermometers with several Thermometer Utility
instances at one PC at one time.
Desired thermometer can be chosen by expanding combo-list next to “CONNECT” button
and selecting device’s serial number. After pressing the mentioned button, communication
with thermometer will initialize and other functions will activate.
Below the toolbar, resides a panel of currently measured levels: temperature, gradient and
resistance (for plugged and used probes: CH1, CH2). These levels can be reviewed in
time, on the “Temporal chart” tab, or recorded from “Record data” tab. Both sections of the
program are described in separate chapters.
In case when the thermometer was plugged into port during program’s work, press “SCAN”
to refresh the list of available devices. It is possible however, while the program is discon-
nected from any device.
