Chapter 2. Storage product setup road map
This chapter provides a general road map to guide you through setting up your storage product.
The storage product setup procedure varies depending on the configuration of the storage product when
it was delivered. In some cases, the storage product is fully configured and you just need to connect the
storage product to the network and an ac power source, and then you can turn on the storage product. In
other cases, the storage product needs to have hardware features installed, requires hardware and firmware
configuration, and requires an operating system to be installed.
The general procedure for setting up your storage product is:
1. Unpack the storage product package. See “Storage product package” on page 7.
2. Install any required hardware or storage product option. See the related topics in Chapter 6 “Replacing
3. If necessary, install the storage product into a standard rack cabinet by using the rail kit shipped with
the storage product. See the
Rack Installation Instructions
that comes with the storage product.
4. Connect the Ethernet cable and power cords to the storage product. See “Rear view of the storage
product” on page 17 to locate the connectors.
5. Turn on the storage product to verify operation. See “Turning on the storage product” on page 29.

Deployment Manager” on page 12 and “Configuring RAID” on page 38.

9. Configure Ethernet settings in the operating system by referring to the operating system help. This
step is not required if the operating system was installed using the Lenovo ThinkServer Deployment
Manager program.
