Recording
Applicable modes:
This function allows you to take a picture with the focus or exposure locked.
This is a technique for setting the focus and the exposure in advance when the main
subject is outside the focus area and/or when it is significantly darker or brighter than the
rest of the subject.

Setting the AF/AE Lock

Aim the AF frame at the main subject.

Press [AF/AE LOCK] to fix the focus and exposure.
• This does not work when AF tracking is active.
• The setting is canceled by pressing the [AF/AE LOCK] again.

Move the camera to compose the picture and then press the shutter release
button fully.
Notes
• The exposure setting remains locked, even if the brightness of the subject changes after
locking.
• The subject can be focused again by pressing the shutter release button halfway even when
the exposure setting is locked.
• Program Shift can be set even when the exposure setting is locked.
• When recording motion pictures after locking, you can continue to record in a locked state in
Creative Video Mode. Lock will be canceled in other modes than Creative Video Mode.
• Lock is canceled when zooming is performed after locking. Perform the locking again.
• Exposure setting Lock will not work in Manual Exposure Mode, Advanced Scene Mode and
Scene Mode.
