Using the Self-propel Drive
To operate the self-propel drive, squeeze the
self-propel drive (lower) bar (A) up toward the handle
and hold it.

To disengage the self-propel drive, release the
self-propel drive bar.
Note:
The maximum self-propel ground speed is
fixed. To reduce the ground speed, increase the
space between the self-propel drive bar and the
handle.
Stopping the Engine
To stop the engine, release the blade control (upper)
bar (B).

Important
: When you release the blade control bar,
both the engine and blade should stop within
3 seconds. If they do not stop properly, stop using
your mower immediately and contact an Authorized
Service Dealer.
Mulching the Clippings
Your mower comes from the factory ready to mulch
the grass and leaf clippings back into the lawn.
If the grass bag is on the mower, remove it (refer to
Removing the Grass Bag on page 10) before
mulching the clippings. If the side discharge chute is
on the mower, remove it and lock the side discharge
door (refer to Removing the Side Discharge Chute on
page 11) before mulching the clippings.
Important
: Ensure that
the mulch plug (A) is in
place before you mulch
the clippings.

Bagging the Clippings
Use the grass bag when you want to collect grass
and leaf clippings from the lawn.
If the side discharge chute is on the mower, remove it
and lock the side discharge door (refer to Removing
the Side Discharge Chute on page 11) before bagging
the clippings.
Warning
The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can
result in serious personal injury.
Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to
stop before leaving the operating position.
Installing the Grass Bag

Rotate the latch rod
to the right and remove
the mulch plug.
