Figure 3-2: Winch Clutch Handle
1.
The
12,000# WINCH CLUTCH
HANDLE
is on the
curbside of the winch assembly
The 12,000 pound winch clutch handle has two
positions that engage or disengage the winch spool:
— DISENGAGE
In this position, the winch is disengaged. This
allows the spool to “free-wheel”. This is only
used when there is no load on the winch cable.
This feature allows the cable to be pulled out
fairly fast and does not require operating the
hydraulic system.
— ENGAGE
In this position, the winch is engaged. Cable may
be “power” spooled on or off the winch spool.
The winch is now controlled by the Winch
Hydraulic Lever.
CAUTION
2.
The
HYDRAULIC WINCH CONTROL LEVER
is the
center lever
It has three positions:
— UP
In this position, the winch reels the winch cable
in.
— CENTER
This is the neutral position. This position has
some holding power, but cannot be relied upon
to hold a load during transport.
— DOWN
In this position, the winch reels the winch cable
out.
1.
The winch is not designed or intended to be
used for lifting or moving people. Using it this
way can cause serious injury or death.
2.
Make certain the winch cable spool clutch is
set to engage and clutch is fully engage
before load tension is applied to winch cable.
Never attempt to disengage the winch cable
spool when the cable is under tension. Loss
of load control, property damage, injury or
death can result.
3.
Failure to leave at least five winch cable
wraps on the winch cable spool could allow
the cable to come off the spool, resulting in
serious personal injury or death.
A minimum of 5 wraps of cable must be left on
the winch drum.
