3-18 UNLOADING THE LOWER DECK
WARNING
1. THE SEMITRAILER MUST BE COU-
PLED TO A TRACTOR AND THE LAND-
ING GEAR RAISED OFF THE GROUND
BEFORE OPERATING.
2. DO NOT OPERATE TRAILER HYDRAU-
LICS UNLESS TRACTOR BRAKES ARE
LOCKED.
WARNING
DO NOT EXCEED THE GROSS AXLE
WEIGHT RATINGS FOR ANY AXLE ON
YOUR VEHICLE. THE COMBINED
WEIGHT OF THE TRACTOR, SEMI-
TRAILER, AND CARGO MUST NOT EX-
CEED THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT
RATING (GVWR) OF THE TRACTOR.
3-18.1
Insure that the winch cables are firmly
attached to the vehicles and sufficient ten-
sion is on the cables so load securing chains
can be safely removed.
3-18.2
Unlock and raise any of the arms nec-
essary so that all vehicles on the lower deck
will clear the upper deck while unloading.
3-18.3
Move the axles forward.
a.
If the load cannot be driven and must be slid
off the trailer, move the undercarriage forward
just enough to allow the rear edge of the
lower deck to touch the ground, when the
trailer is fully tilted.
b.
If the load can be driven off the trailer, the
lowest possible load angle is desirable. Move
the undercarriage forward as far as possible.
3-18.4
Tilt the trailer up until the approach
plate touches the ground.
3-18.5
With load securing devices removed,
reel out the winch on which the rear most
vehicle is attached so that the vehicle moves
back towards the rear of the semitrailer. In-
sure that the load is steering straight so it
does not maneuver off the side of the semi-
trailer.
WARNING
WHEN REMOVING LOAD, INSURE
THAT THE LOAD IS STEERING
STRAIGHT SO IT DOES NOT MANEU-
VER OFF THE SIDE OF THE SEMI-
TRAILER. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD
RESULT IN DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT,
INJURY, OR DEATH.
3-18.6
After the vehicle is completely off the
rear of the semitrailer disconnect the winch
cable and store it on the lower deck.
3-18.7
Move the vehicle out of the way or
move the semitrailer away from the vehicle.
3-18.8
Repeat
until the lower deck is unloaded.
3-19 UNLOADING THE UPPER DECK
3-19.1
Insure that the winch cables are firmly
attached to the vehicles and sufficient ten-
sion is on the cables so load securing chains
can be safely removed.
3-19.2
Unlock and lower the front arm as far
down as it will go.
3-19.3
Unlock and lower the rear arm until the
back edge of the upper deck touches the
lower deck.
3-19.4
Follow
for
