Purge Hydraulic System

Refer to Figure 1-12:

DANGER

To avoid serious injury or death:
Never remove or install a folding wing cylinder with cylinder

rod retracted and wing folded-up. The wing is unstable

without its folding cylinder and can suddenly fall. Also, air

trapped in a new or repaired cylinder will drop the wing

suddenly when lowering the wing. Either situation can render

the cutter inoperable and cause serious bodily injury or death.

WARNING

To avoid serious injury or death:
Be sure center and wing decks are lowered to the ground and

all hydraulic pressure is relieved before disconnecting any

hydraulic lines or fittings to purge the hydraulic system.

Purge right-hand wing cylinder (#2) first and then the left-

hand wing folding cylinder (#3). The center deck lift

cylinder will purge as the wing folding cylinders are being

purged:
1. Start tractor and raise center deck fully up.
2. Put tractor in park or set park brake, turn off engine,

and remove switch key before dismounting tractor.

3. Remove all stroke control spacers (#6). Store stroke

control spacers in a safe location where they can be

retrieved later.

4. Start tractor and lower center deck and both wings

until all decks are resting on their skid shoes.

NOTE:

Do not loosen hydraulic hose

fittings (#7 or #8). Hydraulic fluid will pass through

deck lift cylinder (#5) to the wing cylinders.

5. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting. Refer

“Tractor Shutdown Procedure”

on page 14.

6. Slightly loosen hydraulic hose fitting (#2) on the right-

hand wing cylinder (#1) to allow air to escape.

Start tractor and slowly activate tractor control lever

to retract and extend all three hydraulic cylinders (#1,

#3, & #5) until all trapped air is purged from wing lift

cylinder (#1).

8. Lower center deck and both wings until all decks are

resting on their skid shoes.

9. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting.
10. Tighten hose fitting (#2) after all air is purged from

cylinder (#1).

11. Repeat steps 6-10 above to purge the left-hand wing

cylinder (#3) through fitting (#4).

Unhook Rotary Cutter

1. See

“Long-Term Storage”

on page 42 if parking

cutter for long periods and end of season.

2. If power take-off is engaged, idle engine, then

disengage power take-off.

3. Park cutter on a level, hard surface. Place tractor

gear selector in park or in neutral and set park brake.

4. Wait for blades to come to a complete stop and then

fold wings up to transport position.

5. Shut tractor engine off and remove switch key before

dismounting from tractor.

6. Lock wings in transport position with transport locks

and hairpin cotters. Refer to

“Set Transport Locks”

on page 30.

NOTE:

Center deck will raise fully up before wing

cylinders will start to fold wings up.
