• Foam element - Clean foam element with
detergent in warm water or in a nonflammable
solvent. Do not wring element. Squeeze excess
cleaning fluids out. Allow time for the element to dry
and then soak it with clean engine oil. Squeeze
excess oil out. Excess oil left in the filter will cause
engine to smoke briefly when first started.
6.
Repeat step 4 before installing the filter elements to
make sure they have not been damaged during

Spark Arrester
!
DANGER
The spark arrester does not stop all fire emitting sparks from
escaping the muffler. Use extreme caution when driving through
dry grass, brush and other fire hazard materials. Never stop or
park the vehicle over combustible materials.
!
WARNING
The muffler is very hot and will burn upon contact. Allow time
to cool before servicing the spark arrester.
!
CAUTION
Service spark arrester every 100 hours to maintain efficiency.
!
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage spark arrester screen during cleaning.
Replace damaged spark arrester to prevent fires.
Refer to Figure 6-5
The spark arrester is located behind the muffler deflector
and is designed to suppress sparks from escaping the
muffler. Over time carbon deposits will build-up on the
Spark Arrester screen reducing engine power.
Spark Arrester Maintenance Schedule
•
Inspect every 100 hours for carbon build-up and screen
damage.
•
Clean whenever carbon build-up is visible or whenever
lost of engine power is detected.
•
Replace when damaged.
Spark Arrester Maintenance Procedure
Refer to Figure 6-5
1.
Remove muffler deflector mounting screws and
muffler deflector.
2.
Remove spark arrester from engine exhaust port.
3.
Remove carbon deposits from spark arrester screen
with a wire bristle brush. Be careful not to damage
spark arrester screen.
4.
Inspect spark arrester for holes or breaks in the
screen and replace if damaged.
