Securing Bar to a Wall with Studs

The first thing to do is find a location for your safety bar. Be sure that
the bottom of the safety bar is at least 12" from the floor or moulding.
Otherwise, the bottom mirror will not fit into place. (See cover illustration.)

Using  a stud locator, find the wall studs. The studs should be 16" apart
(the same distance between the holes on the safety bar). Mark the location
of the studs with a pencil. Place the safety bar over the studs and make
drilling marks through the holes in the bar with a pencil. Be sure the bar
is level before you make the drilling marks.

Put the bar down and drill

"-wide pilot holes. Insert the 3" wood

screws through the safety bar and into the wall. Tighten the screws using
a Phillips screwdriver.

Note:

Do not completely tighten the bar until after

you have installed both mirrors.

Securing Bar to Drywall

If your walls are made of drywall, your safety
bar can still be secured. But, rather than using
the wood screws, you will use the machine
screws and butterfly wings, as shown at right.

Do your measuring and drill

"-wide holes

through the drywall. Assemble screws and
butterfly wings to the bar, as shown at right.
Then, push the bar and screws into the wall
until you hear the butterfly wings “pop”
open behind the drywall.

Using minimal force, pull the bar toward you. This will create the resis-
tance necessary to hold the butterfly wings in place while you tighten the
bolts. As you tighten the bolts, the bar will move into place.

Note:

Do not

completely tighten the bar until after you have installed both mirrors.
