Figure 10-12 Minimum gap between shaft and slot end
On each side of the mast, the yellow cylindrical spacer mounted on the lower shaft should never
be in contact with the extremity of the slotted hole of the cover plate. When the arm is stored, a
minimum distance of 1/4” should be maintained between the cylindrical spacer and the lower
part of the slot (distance shown by the letter A in Figure 10-12) for proper operation. Also, a
minimum distance of 1/2” should be maintained between the cylindrical spacer and the upper
part of the slot (distance shown by the letter B in Figure 10-12).
When both chains are new, a small difference in length between these chains may cause a huge
difference in the tension that is applied on them.
If this is the case:
4.
Adjust chain tension at equivalent value as much as possible with the inner baffles.
The bolts shown in Figure 10-13 must be used to adjust those baffles.
The bolt on the chain side having the highest tension should be untightened almost completely
while the other should be tightened to applied tension by the inner chain baffle. When the brake-
in period is over and the chains have nearly the same length, both screws must be untightened in
order to avoid premature wear of the baffles and chain rollers.
