Starting from the outside
, thread a carriage bolt through each of
the two holes in the back leg and through the corresponding holes
in the support brace. Secure each with a washer and wing nut, but
leave loose. Once both carriage bolts have been threaded through
the back leg, go back and tighten the wing nuts completely. The
washers and wing nuts should be facing the inside of the frame if
installed correctly. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to attach the leg to the left
side of the frame.

The futon frame is now assembled.
HELPFUL TIP: At this point the frame should fold and unfold easily. If this is difficult, refer back to
steps 2 through 7 to make sure the carriage bolts and legs were installed in the correct positions (to
allow for the necessary clearance).

To use the frame as a couch it is important to secure it
into the upright position. There are two large wooden
dowels attached to the back of the frame. Insert these
dowels partway into the large holes in the back legs of
the frame.
