2-5.9.8 ISDN ECHO Cancellation
This option allows you to control the ability of the STE to perform echo cancellation over an ISDN
network. When using a STE through a switch to a 2-wire analog line may require the use of near end
echo canceling to support high speed STU or SCIP data transmission
.
The ISDN ECHO Cancellation
menu (
) shows whether the feature is ENABLED or DISABLED or in AUTO. The default
setting is “DISABLED”.

1. To change the setting, press CHANGE to toggle between ENABLED or DISABLED or AUTO.
2. If no change is required or after a new entry is made, pressing SCROLL returns the display to
the NETWORK SETTINGS menu (Figure 2-7).
3. Press BACK to return the display to the NETWORK SETTINGS menu (Figure 2-7).
This completes the configuration of the STE for ISDN service. Proceed to Paragraph
and connect
the STE to the ISDN service.
2-5.10
Connect ISDN Port
If the service provider did not provide a RJ-45 wall jack, plug the provided ISDN cable into the
ISDN
PORT
.
If an ISDN RJ-45 wall jack is available, locate the Network Cable (P/N URT45-M4N-12-BK) supplied with
the terminal. Plug one end of the cable into the
ISDN PORT
and the other end into the wall jack.
If the service provider installed an ISDN U receptacle, you must use an NT-1 Interface Adapter. Set the
adapter’s termination switch to 100
Ω
and plug it into the wall receptacle. Plug the Network Cable (P/N
URT45-M4N-12-BK) supplied with the STE into the device end of the adapter and the other end into the
ISDN PORT
.
When connected, proceed to Paragraph
and make a test call.

PSTN
2-6.1 PSTN
Pre-Installation Requirements
The PSTN pre-installation requirements apply to Office STEs equipped with a PSTN wedge, Tactical
STEs, STE-Rs and STE-RTs.
The Office STE and STE-R may be equipped with a conventional/standard PSTN wedge or an
International PSTN wedge. If these STEs were issued prior to Release 2.4 (October 2004), they are
equipped with the conventional PSTN wedge. The Office STEs and STE-Rs issued with Release 2.4 are
equipped with the International PSTN wedge.
In all cases, the
PSTN PORT
, an RJ-11 connector, is located on the rear of the PSTN and Tactical
Wedges. A PSTN Cord is provided to connect the STE to a wall jack. Make sure the RJ-11 wall jack, or
a pre-connected wire that will mate to the STE, is wired as shown in
. Only the RNG and TIP
leads are required for STE operation. The connector on the conventional PSTN wedge is covered with a
removable metal sticker. In the USA and other countries where the conventional PSTN wedge is
authorized for use, the sticker may be removed and the STE used on PSTN lines. For all other
applications, the International PSTN wedge must be used.
