Saving the IP Address in the Print Server

Print Server Installation Manual
The file to be edited depends on the implementation of the RARP
network service on your UNIX system. Please read the description
of 'rarpd' in your UNIX user manual if necessary.
Procedure for
'rarpd.cf'
Proceed as follows:
1. Add the following entry to the '/etc/rarpd.cf' file:
Syntax:
<IP address> <hardware address>
Example: 192.168.0.123 00:c0:eb:00:01:ff
Procedure for
'ethers'
Proceed as follows:
1. Add the following entry to the '/etc/ethers' file:
Syntax:
<hardware address> <host name>
Example: 00:c0:eb:00:01:ff SB0001FF
4.3.3. Saving the IP Address Using the 'arp' and 'ping' Commands
If the DHCP, BOOTP, and RARP boot protocols are not
implemented in your system, you can use the 'arp' and 'ping'
commands to save the IP address. The 'arp' command is used for
editing the ARP table. The 'ping' command transfers a data packet
with the IP address to the hardware address of the print server.
Once the data packet has been successfully received, the print
server permanently saves the IP address.
Procedure
Proceed as follows:
1. Change the ARP table:
Ethernet: arp -s <host name> <hardware address>
Token Ring:arp -s 802.5 <host name><hardware address>
AIX:
arp -s ether <host name> <hardware address>
Example: arp -s SB0001FF 00:c0:eb:00:01:ff
