Fig. 20:
Angular misalignment (example)
The angular misalignment V
w
is calculated according to the equation. Observe the
permissible values indicated by the coupling manufacturer.
5.11.4.3 Axial distance
The axial distance V
a
of the different coupling types varies. Refer to the general
arrangement drawing and the manufacturer's product literature for the permissible
tolerances.
5.12 Determining misalignment and correct vertical plane
Vertical thermal expansion must be taken into account before moving the equipment
vertically. Refer to the notes on the installation plan and/or the drive manufacturer’s
instructions for the recommended vertical setting.
Fig. 21:
Recommended shim
design
▪
The shims between the motor feet and mounting surface must be clean and dry.
This is especially important for equipment that has been in service for some time
and need to be re-aligned. Water, dirt and rust may change the height of the
shim pack over a period of time.
▪
Shims must extend at least 5 mm beyond the outer edges of the drive's foot.
▪
Shims must extend at least 0.25 inches beyond the outer edges of the drive's
foot.
▪
Do not use multiple thin shims as this may lead to an unstable installation.
ü
The shims between the motor feet and mounting surface must be clean and dry.
1. Adjust the height by adding or removing shims.
2. Tighten the bolts to the required tightening torques.
3. Move the drive by tapping with a soft hammer/mallet or using the adjusting
screws (if provided).
4. The amount of horizontal repositioning required is specified in the alignment/
taking-over certificate.
5.13 Alignment corrections on the pump
5.13.1 Correcting the alignment of the pump set components
The alignment corrections on the other pump set components shall be performed in
accordance with the relevant manufacturer’s product literature.
5.14 Drilling the holes for fastening the feet
If the baseplate is not provided with tapped holes for fastening the pump set
components, use the holes in the feet of the pump set components as templates.
Because of the thermal expansion of the pump and the associated displacement of
the pump feet, the position of the holes must be marked accordingly.
