2.3  Flammable products

Atmospheric conditions:

The standard atmospheric conditions according to IEC 60079-0 under which it may be assumed

that Ex equipment can be operated are:

Temperature: -20...+60°C / -4...+140°F

Pressure: 80...110 kPa (0.8...1.1 bar) / 11.6...15.9 psi

Air with normal oxygen content, typically 21%v/v

Ex equipment must be tested and certified for the intended operating temperature range (e.g. for

ambient temperature range -10...+80°C / 14...+176°F).

Ex equipment operating outside the specified above standard atmospheric conditions is

permitted only via risk assessment of the user and additional measures, as necessary.

Operating conditions:

The sensor part of SMARTPAT COND 5200 may operate outside the standard atmospheric

pressure range, which means that explosion protection may not be applicable for the sensor part

(piping).

2.4  Device category

The sensor is designed in category II 1 G for use in zone 0.

For more information refer to chapter "Flammable products".

DANGER!

Operation with flammable products is only permitted as long as no explosive fuel/air mixture

builds up inside of the piping at the same time the atmospheric conditions are exceeded.

The operator is responsible to ensure that the sensor is operated safely in terms of temperature

and pressure, as well as the medium used. In case of operation with flammable media the

sensor must be included in the periodic pressure tests of the plant!

The sensor housing is made from non-conductive PVDF. In order to avoid danger from

electrostatic charge, the minimum conductivity of the media must be 10 nS/cm.

INFORMATION!

Definition of zone 0 according to EN 1127-1:

An area in which an explosive atmosphere, as a result of the mixture of flammable substances in

the form of gas, vapours or mist with air, is continuously or for long periods or frequently

present.
