5.3 Connecting the VM-20FW as Four 1:4 Distributors
You can use your
VM-20FW
1:20 FireWire Distributor/Hub
, as four 1:4
Distributors, without reference to PORT A or PORT B.
To connect the
VM-20FW
as four 1:4 Distributors, as the example in Figure
3 illustrates, do the following

1. Connect a FireWire device (source 1) via a 1394 cable to the OUT/IN 6 pin
port 1, and then connect up to 4 FireWire devices using 1394 cables to the
OUT/IN 6 pin ports 2, 3, 4, and 5 (outputs (1)).
2. Connect a FireWire device (source 2) via a 1394 cable to the OUT/IN 6 pin
port 6, and then connect up to 4 FireWire devices using 1394 cables to the
OUT/IN 6 pin ports 7, 8, 9, and 10 (outputs (2)).
3. Connect a FireWire device (source 3) via a 1394 cable to the OUT/IN 6 pin
port 11, and then connect up to 4 FireWire devices using 1394 cables to the
OUT/IN 6 pin ports 12, 13, 14, and 15 (outputs (3)).
4. Connect a FireWire device (source 4) via a 1394 cable to the OUT/IN 6 pin
port 16, and then connect up to 4 FireWire devices using 1394 cables to the
OUT/IN 6 pin ports 17, 18, 19, and 20 (outputs (4)).
5. Connect the power cord.
