3 Overview
The Kramer
TP-551N
and the
TP-552N
constitute a high quality HDMI line
transmitter / receiver system using two STP CAT 5E cables. The transmission
range between the HDMI source and the HDMI acceptor can be extended to
up to 60m (200ft) @ 1080i and 50m (166ft)@1080p.
This transmitter / receiver pair:
Supports up to 1.65Gbps bandwidth
Passes the EDID, HPD

and CEC

signals from the source to the
display device using the CAT 5E cables
The
TP-551N
HDMI Line Transmitter features:
An HDMI input and a pair of RJ-45 CAT 5 output connectors
Three status LEDs (INPUT, OUTPUT and POWER)
The TP-552N HDMI Line Receiver features:
An HDMI output and a pair of RJ-45 CAT 5 input connectors
Three status LEDs (INPUT, OUTPUT and POWER)

3.1 Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) / Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
The decision whether to use shielded twisted pair (STP) cable or unshielded
twisted pair (UTP) cable depends on the nature of the application.
It is recommended that in applications with high interference, shielded twisted
pair (STP) cable is used. However, the shield itself does create a capacitance
that degrades the frequency response of the machines. For shorter distances, of
50m or so, shielded twisted pair (STP) cable is preferred because it provides
protection from interference (degradation is not apparent).
For long range applications, unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable is preferred.
However, the unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable should be installed far away from
electric cables, motors and so on, which are prone to create electrical interference.
In general, it is recommended to use shielded twisted pair (STP) skew-free
Kramer cable BC-SXTP for transmitting VGA signals, and shielded twisted
pair (STP) non-skew-free Kramer BC-STP cable for digital signals.
