2.3.7 Serial Ports
The AM4011 provides two serial ports, COM1 and COM2, both fully compatible with the 16550
controller.
The COM1 interface includes receive and transmit signals as well as additional signals for
handshaking mode. Data transfer rates up to 115.2 kB/s are supported. COM1 is available on
the front panel as a serial RS-232, 10-pin, mini connector, J5. This connector allows connecting
standard serial devices to the AM4011 via a specially designed serial adapter for a 10-pin mini
connector to a 9-pin, female, D-Sub connector from Kontron.
The COM2 interface includes only receive and transmit signals. Data transfer rates up to
115.2 kB/s are supported. COM2 is available on the AMC port 15 in the Extended Options
Region of the AMC Card-edge Connector as TTL 3.3 V signal level.
The following figure and table provide pinout information on the serial port connector J5.
The following figure illustrates the Kontron adapter for a 10-pin, mini connector to a 9-pin, fe-
