The flat face transducers of the EM 3002 makes the system
accuracy less dependent of variations in sound speed at the
transducer depth if the Sonar Head is mounted horizontally, and
if roll and pitch are not excessive. If the sound speed in the
survey area is subject to frequent changes, it is recommended to
install a sensor to allow real-time measurement of the sound
speed at the transducer. The system will then take into account
the sensor measurements in its calculations of beam pointing
angles as well as corrections for raybending. The system is
prepared for using an AML Smart Probe directly.
