ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

The Smitty is a very simple build-

ing. There are four sides and two

roof panels—no floor; it’s assumed

to be dirt. There are 14 metal parts,

a roof truss, and four small wooden

crown pieces for the false front to

complete the kit.
Glue the four sides together and

hold for curing with a rubber band

or clamp. Since there is no floor, be

careful to keep the building square

and not let it collapse inward.
Once completely cured, glue the

window and door pieces in place.
The way the roof is installed de-

pends on the way you intend to dis-

play the building. Since it is without

a floor, you could glue it down to a

hard board base (to which you can

add flocking, sand, and detail parts

like rain barrels and wagon wheels).

In that case, you would assemble

the roof separately and leave it re-

movable. If you intend to handle the

building without a base, it is recom-

mended that you either glue the roof

on the building so it does not come

off, or glue the truss to the top of

the walls, and one roof panel in

place, removing the other for figure

access.
When painting, make sure to do a

good job of spray priming—the

large metal doors are easily scuffed

and present a large flat metal sur-

face, which can be challenging for

paint when not adequately primed.
Being a Blacksmith shop, this build-

ing would not have been elaborately

painted. The easiest way to finish

the building is with successive dry-

brushed coats of lighter and lighter

paint, taking it from dark brown to a

weathered barn color in several

steps. Paint the hardware on the

door a steel color—add rust if you

feel ambitious!
