app that can edit and save a file as “plain
text” or “simple text” is required. Most
word processing and text editing programs
have this capability.
Supported operating systems
Windows
: Full feature support is provided
under Windows 7, Windows 8 and earlier
versions which support USB. The graphical
“no-install” programming app (SE Config
App) is provided also for Windows 7 & 8.
Most features are also supported under
Linux, Android, and Chrome.
Macintosh systems (OS X 10.5 & newer):
Most features are supported. However, OS
X does not allow one USB device to modify
another, so a pedal programmed as modifi-
er key can only be used in combination
with another pedal on the same device, not
with a key on a keyboard. However, a pedal
programmed to perform Cmd-b, for exam-
ple (which will typically toggle bolding), will
operate correctly.
Installation
Play Mode
Be sure your Savant Elite2 device is in “Play
Mode” before connecting for the first time
to any particular USB port. Look on the
underside for the labelled recessed slide
switch. Waterproof models do not have a
slide switch and will default to Play Mode
as long as a pedal isn’t pressed while it is
being plugged in.
The first time you connect your Savant
Elite2 to a computer or tablet, the system
will install generic “HID” drivers provided
by the operating system. The red LED will
come on briefly while the automatic instal-
lation process begins, and within a short
time the steady green light will indicate
“Play Mode” installation is finished.
If you inadvertently connect it in “program
mode,” simply change the slide switch to
“play mode” and wait for the self installa-
tion to complete, as indicated by steady
illumination of the green LED. If the green
LED is flashing, check that the program-
ming switch is in “play” mode. If the red
LED stays on, see
“Troubleshooting.”

If you wish to re-program the device, first
check that the factory configuration is
working , then refer to “Programming ”
below. Details for programming are provid-
ed in the separate “Programming Guide”
which is stored on the device and is also
available for download at
http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/support/
technical-support/manuals-drivers.
Programming
Activating “Programming Mode” creates a
virtual removable disk (VRD) named
KINESIS-FP on your computer or tablet.
That virtual disk contains the
SE2 Config
App
for Windows, plus a PDF
SE2 Pro-
gramming Guide
. The latter has extensive
details and examples. The VRD also con-
tains a folder named “
Active
” in which a
text file named
pedals.txt
resides.
Pedals.txt contains the complete configura-
tion instructions and is where you program
the Savant Elite2 device. Tips for accessing
the VRD in different operating systems are
provided below.
Programming Mode using slide switch
Turn over your Savant Elite2 device and,
using a pointed pen or pencil to move the
recessed slide switch from the “Play” to the
“Program” position. The first time this is
done, the red LED will be on briefly while
the system auto-installs the Program
Mode. Then the red light will go out and
the system opens the virtual removable
drive (hereafter called the VRD).
NOTE: DO NOT PRESS ANY PEDALS WHILE
WAITING FOR VRD TO OPEN. IF YOU DO SO
AND THE DEVICE STOPS WORKING, JUST
UNPLUG IT, WAIT 15 SECONDS , THEN RE-
CONNECT THE DEVICE.
When the VRD is open, the green light will
begin flashing to indicate Programming
Mode is active. At this time, mouse actions
from the pedal are inactive. You should
either get the “Autoplay” popup (Windows
7) or your “My Computer” screen will open
(Windows 8). For Mac systems, a
“Removable Volume” disk icon will appear
on your desktop (upper right).
